Cesar Millan's visit to San Antonio highlights a week of spreading the gospel of responsible dog ownership and recognizing some especially handsome canines.

Though Dog Awareness Week is already under way, you can still find a new friend to share it with, thanks to special $60 dog adoptions going on today at Animal Care Services, the Animal Defense League of Texas, the Cowboy Capital Pet Assistance League, the Helotes Humane Society, the Humane Society/SPCA of Bexar County and Universal City Animal Care & Control.

All adopted dogs will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Each adoption also includes two tickets to this year's River City Cluster of Dog Shows.

Wednesday, the Spay-Neuter Assistance Program and SpaySA together will offer 100 free spay/neuter services to San Antonio residents. For more information, call SNAP at (210) 673-7722 or SpaySA at (210) 351-7729.

The River City Cluster of Dog Shows starts Wednesday at the Convention Center with five days of all-breed shows that showcase top dogs and top breeders from across the country, plus vendors and activities.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12, with free admission for those 4 and younger. For more information, call (210) 582-7112 or visit rivercitycds.com.
