Editor's Note: If there is a group, organization or Web site missing from this list, please e-mail pets@mysanantonio.com.

Before you spend hundreds of dollars at a pet store or breeder, consider visiting one of the numerous animal shelters or rescues in the San Antonio area housing pets who desperately need homes. Many of these organizations provide services such as spaying and neutering, vaccinations, disease testing, micro-chipping, and pet care kits — all included in the adoption fee. Please visit individual Web sites for adoption or foster care details.
